When talking about the history of online gaming, it’s impossible to ignore EverQuest. The popular high-fantasy free-to-play game, which launched on March 16, 1999, popularized the MMORPG (massive multiplayer online role-playing game) genre, and has left a lasting impact on it. For fans of the game, losing hours upon hours to adventures in the world of Norrath was a staple, whether you hung out with elves, erudites, barbarians, dwarves, halflings, gnomes, ogres or trolls. The influence and impact EverQuest has had on MMORPGs in its wake is easy to see.
